So A co-worker once mentioned she loved seeing how certain projects were planned out and mentioned she saw a blog or editorial on how their design concept came to fruition.
I've always hated looking back at past work, thinking that my design talents would never evolve if I kept looking back. But lately, I've been loving looking at how I've gotten to the final product in certain projects. Obviously working in an agency there's always going to be a ton of directional changes, tweaks and even complete shutdowns, but I thought I might show an example of how I got from A to B ...or C in this instance.

In this project, my agency was asked to do a caricature of an employee that was being promoted and placed in another office. The client thought it would be a great way of saying thank you for all the great work he's done throughout his stay with that department.
Me having the nerdy zit-faced-comic loving past, I suggested that we do a comic book cover.
Any element they thought of that would have meaning to this character could be incorporated into this cover.

So I started out with a rough sketch.

After the rough sketch and receiving the high-fives from my superiors, I went on to tighten the drawing and have it ready for scanning to then be vectorized

From here, I spent most of my time on Adobe Illustrator. Tracing my own lines and dropping in colour. In the past, I used to ink my pencils, so that it was easier to view on the scanner. Thankfully I took that stage out of the ballgame and worked directly over my pencils in Illustrator. This way I could have crisp black lines and not worry about losing any weight.

After the client sent a good reference photo of the person being personalized, I illustrated his picture and simply added it to the body of the super hero.

Once this was done, the rest of the work is really making it look slick with colour. Sometimes this process takes a lot of time, but sometimes it's really quick. Illustrator is great especially with how fast you can change colours on a project.
Here's what the final piece ended up looking like.

So for a day and a half's work, we presented the client with this and they were really happy.
I'm sure with some more time I could have worked on a different background with some more detail, but alas, in the design world, the clients always come first, and they always want things done yesterday.

So yeah, there's my first actual design/illustration blog and hope you enjoyed it.

hmm....
so yea! ... I feel like I'm on a blind date right now with someone who hates redheads or like I walked into a really expensive looking store and got the "Can you leave without a fuss" look from Jeeves selling the Louvitton or however you spell it.
So I'm just going to start off by looking around and seeing what this whole thing is about.

Not sure if I'll like it, or if I'll be shun by everyone because of my colossal amounts of spelling mistakes, sentence structures and run-on sentences. Mom and Auntie Gail would have a field day with me on this thing. Either way, I'm up for trying it. Plus, my prof in my film class told me that after he read my journals on films we viewed, he wanted to see me write the way I think, the way I speak, not the way people think I should speak. So I may use cuss words on here, but I'll try to keep them down to a minimum.

Hopefully I'll get to read about some interesting things that apply to my everyday life/career/interests and hopefully pass on some of my incite on to other people's lives.

Anywho, c'est tout!
